31 So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Oh, what a terrible sin these people have committed. They have made gods of gold for themselves. 32 But now, if you will only forgive their sin—but if not, erase my name from the record you have written!”
33 But the Lord replied to Moses, “No, I will erase the name of everyone who has sinned against me. 34 Now go, lead the people to the place I told you about.
Then the Lord told Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones. I will write on them the same words that were on the tablets you smashed.
“Yahweh! The Lord!
The God of compassion and mercy!
I am slow to anger
and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
7 I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.
I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.
But I do not excuse the guilty.
I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;
the entire family is affected—
even children in the third and fourth generations.”
20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
Phillips Translation: “it is the straight-edge of the Law that shows us how crooked we are.”
21 But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago
22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes…
no matter who we are.
- I give my life to Jesus.
- I believed my life was too messed up to have a relationship with God.
- I want to obey God's commands because of my love for Him, not because I am earning His love.
- The message of Jesus is such Good News! I will share this truth with my friends.
